I’ve been crocheting these Super Simple Drink Coasters for several years for use in my home. I needed an oversized coaster for our giant coffee mugs that was absorbent and easy to care for. This is a no-frills crochet pattern, but it gets the job done!

If you’re looking to practice crocheting in the round this is the perfect coaster pattern to practice with! The Super Simple Drink Coaster crochet pattern is an easy, beginner friendly pattern perfect for hot and cold drinks. Make one or a whole set.

A few things about this pattern. For the Super Simple Coaster crochet pattern, I suggest using a cotton yarn. Cotton is easy to care for. It’s absorbent, so it’ll soak up your cold drink condensation and catch that moisture.

I’ve chosen Loops and Threads Coastal Cotton (90% cotton, 10% acrylic) for this pattern mainly because I already had it in my yarn stash. Any worsted weight cotton yarn will work though, so go though your yarn stash and see what you’ve got. I’ve made these previously with Lion Brand Comfy Cotton Blend (50% Cotton, 50% Polyester) and although they work, they are not as absorbent as I would like them to be. If you are using a cotton blend yarn, my suggestion is to use a blend that has at least 70% Cotton. The higher the percentage of cotton the better.

Washing these coasters is a breeze. I just toss them in the wash with my kitchen towels and napkins. I don’t run them through the dryer because they tend to curl up and go wonky on me if I do. Instead, I just lay the coasters out flat and let them air dry for a couple hours.

For the Super Simple Coaster Crochet Pattern you will need:

Yarn- For each coaster you will need about 10g/17m or .35oz/20.5yd of a worsted weight #4 cotton yarn or cotton blend yarn (at least 70% cotton).

For a set of 4 coasters, you will need about 40g/75m or 1.4oz/82yd of worsted weight #4 cotton yarn or cotton blend yarn.

Hook- 4.5mm crochet hook (sometimes called a #7 hook or a G+ hook). I used my Furls Streamline Swirl 4.5mm G+ hook in Andromeda, you can find them here (this is an affiliate link). If you prefer, you could use a 4.0mm (G) hook or a 5.0mm (H) hook, but your coaster measurements will be slightly different and your yarn usage will also be different.
